LOCOMOTIVE KITS

We produce a small range of complete loco kits which offer high quality components, well thought out construction methodology and with instructions which are logically sequenced and fully illustrated, all at prices which offer excellent value. Each part is made from the most appropriate material and process for the right blend of strength and appearance. The kits include castings in whitemetal, lost wax brass and nickel silver, brass turnings, 12 and 18 thou brass and nickel silver etchings, wire, a pick up set and all fixings. The patient modeller will be rewarded with a highly detailed scale model.

20 locos were built in 1947/8 with poppet valve gear, inside drive and low running plate. Some had roller bearings, and there were variations in the steam pipes, chimney and front frame steps. These are all catered for in the kit, which comprises high quality white metal castings, brass and nickel silver etchings, and detail fittings in lost wax brass or nickel silver and turned brass.

This shows the second batch of these locos built with roller bearings and elbow steam pipes. Three of them were equipped with a double chimney.

It may not be pretty, but it's how these locos usually looked. This fine model by John Lingwood really captures the 'last days of steam' look.
The kit features the correct part welded tender with Ivatt pattern air vents and water sieve boxes.
These were allocated to some 335 of the Class 5 locos and it is available separately.

All for £90!
At last, no more shopping around, because all the materials needed (except paint and solder!) are in the box. This is an ideal introduction to building etched loco kits, and the full instructions guide the beginner through the whole process, from cutting the etched parts from the fret right through to troubleshooting the running of the finished loco. The instructions are supplemented by a CD containing photographs showing the various stages of the build. (The builder will need the usual hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers and wirecutters, and a suitable soldering iron.)

This photograph is one of the shots on the CD that is included in the kit. This one shows the soldering of the axle bushes into the gearbox
This is another photo from the CD. It shows how the guard irons are shaped, and also how the brakes and brake pull rods are soldered into position.
This kit is aimed squarely at the beginner, and the instructions explain how in the future the builder can build more sophisticated models by making their own choice of motor, gearbox, wheels, etc. But we all need a bit of help when taking up a new challenge, so start on your loco building with this kit and benefit from Comet Models' many years of experience of loco kit building.
